About Me

After 15 years working in healthcare as an occupational therapy assistant, I returned to graduate school to pursue a master of arts degree in clinical mental health counseling, which I received from Lincoln Christian University.  I obtained clinical training at a 4-year university and a community college, where I worked with young adults and college students of all ages and abilities, addressing a variety of concerns such as adjustment/life transitions, anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief/loss, health issues, regulation issues, boundary issues, relationship issues, identity concerns, social media issues, self-harming behaviors, disordered eating patterns, and OCD.  I also co-led therapy groups on stress/anxiety management, processing grief/loss, and processing spiritual abuse/trauma.  I find it especially rewarding to help clients who are nervous about starting therapy for the first time or who are re-starting therapy after a negative experience.

My Approach:

We often seek out counseling because we can develop ways of being and doing that served a purpose for us for a season (often to help us feel safe or in control) that are no longer working for us now, causing dysfunction.  However, we can develop new ways of being and grow to feel safer and more connected with ourselves, our surroundings, and others.

Whether you feel stuck, trapped, alone, misunderstood, ashamed, want change, want to (re)-discover and connect with yourself, others, and the world around you, or just need an unbiased listening ear, I invite you to give counseling a try!

My approach to counseling is holistic, integrative, and de-pathologizing.  I value client autonomy and believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship.  My strengths are patience, compassion, and curiosity, peppered with a sense of humor.  Clients often report their time with me as safe and judgment-free.

Polyvagal, attachment, existential/humanistic and multicultural theoretical approaches influence my counseling practices.  I frequently utilize theories and modalities such as acceptance and commitment therapy, internal family systems, mindfulness, nervous system mapping, and motivational interviewing.  I also utilize elements of narrative therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, emotionally -focused individual therapy, and a strengths-based approach.

I hold a CTP (certified trauma professional) designation from Evergreen Certifications, which means I have taken a certain amount of hours of continuing education with a trauma-related focus and am currently working on additional training in neurofeedback.

Being human can be hard.  It can also be beautiful.  I would be honored to help in your healing journey. You can email me here if you are ready to get started.
